ByeType ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the ByeType application and website (byetype.com).
1. Information We Collect
Voice & Audio Data
ByeType processes voice input to convert speech to text. How your audio is handled depends on your chosen transcription mode:
- On-Device Mode (WhisperKit): Audio is processed entirely on your device. No audio data leaves your phone. We never receive, store, or have access to your recordings in this mode.
- Cloud Mode: Audio is sent to third-party transcription services (see Section 4) for processing. Audio is transmitted over encrypted connections and is not stored by ByeType after transcription is complete.
Waitlist Email Data
If you sign up for our waitlist on byetype.com, we collect your email address. This data is stored securely on Cloudflare's infrastructure and is used solely to notify you about ByeType's launch. You can request deletion of your email at any time by contacting us.
Usage Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website. This service does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track individual users across websites.
Transcription History
Transcription history is stored locally on your device using SwiftData. We do not have access to your transcription history.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide voice-to-text transcription services
- To apply AI text formatting and cleanup to your transcriptions
- To notify waitlist subscribers about our launch
- To improve our website and user experience through anonymous analytics
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect or store your voice recordings (in on-device mode)
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing
- We do not use cookies for tracking
- We do not build user profiles for advertising
4. Third-Party Services
When using cloud transcription mode, your audio may be processed by the following services according to their respective privacy policies:
- OpenAI (Whisper API)
- Groq
- ElevenLabs
When using AI reasoning mode, your text may be processed by:
- OpenAI
- Anthropic (Claude)
- Google (Gemini)
- Groq
API keys for these services are stored securely in your device's Keychain and are never transmitted to ByeType servers.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
- Voice data: Not retained by ByeType. Cloud providers may retain data per their own policies.
- Transcription history: Stored locally on your device. Delete at any time through the app.
- Waitlist emails: Retained until you request deletion or unsubscribe. Contact us at weirenlan.tw@gmail.com to request removal.
6. Your Rights (GDPR / EU Users)
If you are located in the European Union, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data (right to erasure)
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Data portability

7. Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure Keychain storage for API keys, and Cloudflare's security infrastructure for our website.
8. Children's Privacy
ByeType is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
